My seeds for this puzzle were 17-Across and 3-Down. I was pleased with how it turned out, but when I started clueing, my eyes landed on a very obscure bit of fill that had escaped my notice during construction (I hate when that happens).
I did two different revisions, one that preserved both seeds and another that sacrificed one of them; I didn’t like either one as much as I liked this one. So, I held on to that obscure bit and massaged the clue to make the answer more inferable.
