I’m a longtime reader of The Atlantic, and the August issue includes seven excellent pieces “marking 80 years of life in the Atomic Age.” The quote I chose for this acrostic was included in Noah Hawley’s story titled “Vonnegut and the Bomb” (the quote, from 1967, isn’t Vonnegut’s). I’ll say right off the bat that it isn’t particularly uplifting, but in light of what’s happening in the world right now, it’s important food for thought.
