This is another of my themed puzzles that was rejected by a couple of outlets because they’d run something similar in the not-too-distant past. I quite like it, so retrieved it from the reject folder and tweaked several of the clues. I hope it’s an enjoyable solve.

It’s too bad the puzzle wasn’t picked up. It’s smooth, clean, and fun.

I’m definitely getting better. I came within 3 clues before having to take a hint.

Your puzzles are so fun – I have a few open at once and pick away at them when I’m on the computer…keeps my mind going!

Fun, smooth solve as usual! But I think the theme went totally over my head. Can anyone enlighten me?

Hi Sendhil! This is one of the instances – a la USA Today – where the title is the revealer. The first, or ‘forward’ word in the answers to 17-, 29-, 49-, and 66-Across can be paired with FAST to make a new phrase: FAST BREAK, FAST FOOD, FAST TALK and FAST TRACK.
