I came across this quote in The New Yorker, where author and historian Jill Lepore cited it in a piece about planning for our country’s upcoming 250th birthday. As I think you’ll see, it could easily have been written by any number of US citizens today.

Go TP! I didn’t know that about V, interesting fact. With your background, I started to plunk down ENDEMIC in BB, but it didn’t fit (obviously). As to W: have you read his (not the fictional character, the Russian writer) short stories? They’re as incisive today as they were over 100 years ago.
I can recall taking deep dives into “The Lady with the Dog” and “The Bet” in a lit class many years ago and I’m sure they’d be worth revisiting.
