I spent Memorial Day weekend with my circle of college friends. Mother Nature wasn’t especially cooperative, so on a rainy afternoon some of us visited a local used bookstore. One of the five books I left with was “Wildland: The Making of America’s Fury”, by Evan Osnos, a writer whose New Yorker pieces I’ve always admired and enjoyed. This acrostic’s quote, one of the book’s two epigraphs, struck a chord.
