Consonant Companions #2

Time for another Consonant Companion puzzle.

Here’s a reminder of how it works: in each of the grids below, answers begin in the upper left and spiral their way to the center. The shaded squares will always contain consonants; the white squares will always contain vowels (Y doesn’t appear in any of the answers). The same consonants will be used in the same order in both grids. As a solving aid, consonants will automatically populate the right grid as you fill in the left grid.

For the grid on the left, clues are given in order; for the grid on the right, you’ll need to figure out the order based on the consonants.

I had a lot of fun clueing this particular puzzle and hope it makes for a fun solving experience. If this puzzle variety is new to you, please let me know what you think.

    A fun solve, thanks JDB! Great cluing as always. I stalled on your last Consonant Companion puzzle, just wasn’t getting my head around the mechanics, so I figured I should try harder on this one. And it was still quite challenging (and I had to look up a few things I’m afraid) but I got through it and feel pretty good about it.

    I think I recently read Toblerone was expanding production to Bratislava and the Swiss gov was not allowing them to use the same branding? I guess there will be some European Toblerones with a particular identifiable alp and others with a more stylised non-specific alp soon, if not already.

    Not much of a sports watcher but I’ve enjoyed seeing OG Anunoby making the rounds, he seems like a pretty decent guy. There’s a fun clip of him accepting an Espy where he’s a really tall guy with a tragically short mic stand; you’d think when giving awards to basketball players they’d have somebody on hand to adjust the mic, right?

    Hi Eric, so glad you stuck with it; there’s no penalty for looking things up! And yes, you’re right re: the chocolate issue. When I was deciding how to best clue that particular answer, I learned about the manufacturing site in Bratislava and the requirement that the logo on products made there be a “modernised and streamlined mountain”, not the famous alp in question. I myself am not a regular follower of the NBA, but I managed to get caught up in the excitement of the Knicks’ title run. Some of the videos of various watch parties of that indelible Game 4 are truly thrilling.
