Yet another kind of variety puzzle: the Shape Shifter! Leave it to the master, Patrick Berry, to continually come up with fun, new formats. While this may not truly be a brand-new format for Patrick, it’s new for me, as I’d never run across one before. My thanks, as always, to Alex Boisvert over at Crossword Nexus for the introduction.

Here’s how it works. In each shape shifter grid, the two staircase-shaped sections can be pushed together vertically or horizontally to form two different sets of words reading across. (Important: there are no down answers!) Looking at the grids below, if you push horizontally, you get seven 6-letter words; if you push vertically, you get six 7-letter words. At left, in the second row, the 6-letter word, REVERT, is highlighted in green. If you push the lower staircase up, you form the 7-letter word, REVERIE, highlighted in purple.

The clues for the puzzle below have been grouped by answer length, but they’re out of order, so you’ll need to figure out where each answer goes within the grid.
